UPDATE: Coroner's report determines cause of death as drowning.
The wounds on the wrist were almost certainly self-inflicted. The deceased drowned in his own blood.
Official cause of death (as far as the coroner is concerned) is suicide, despite whatever police detectives may say to the contrary.
